This residential project in Brentwood, CA had one clear goal: give the homeowner more privacy around their custom jacuzzi while keeping the backyard looking intentional and finished.

CalifauxScapes supplied and installed artificial boxwood hedges built for outdoor use, with UV stabilization to help limit fading and material wear from sun exposure. The result was a privacy boundary you get right away, and one that looks planned, not like a quick fix.

The challenge

The homeowner had already invested in a custom jacuzzi, but its placement left the area open to neighboring sightlines. They wanted privacy without building anything that felt bulky, out of place, or like a temporary screen.

They also needed something that wouldn't add ongoing work. Traditional hedging can look great, but it means watering, trimming, seasonal thinning, and waiting for plants to fill in. This space was meant for downtime, so they wanted privacy immediately and they wanted it to look the same all year.

Our solution

CalifauxScapes recommended artificial boxwood hedge panels as a long-lasting, low-maintenance privacy layer. The boxwood style stays dense and classic, which matters when the goal is to block views rather than just add a bit of green.

Because this was going on a deck, we planned the attachment method upfront. Instead of a light-duty setup, we designed a mounting approach with custom plates drilled into the decking so the hedge panels would be properly supported and lined up. And since the install would live outdoors, we specified UV-rated materials to help the color and structure hold up over time.

Implementation

We started by confirming the sightlines around the jacuzzi area and marking where the hedge panels needed to start and stop so the space felt cleanly defined. Since square footage was not provided, final panel count, coverage, and height were finalized from on-site measurements.

Next was the mounting work. We fabricated and set custom plates, then drilled into the decking to create solid anchor points for the hedge panels. That's what made it feel built-in: straight lines, consistent height, and fewer gaps.

After that, we installed the hedge panels, checked alignment from multiple angles (inside the jacuzzi zone and from the surrounding yard), and tuned the seams so it read as one continuous, dense hedge instead of a row of modular sections.
